Tokyojin [Tokyo resident] is not just another "mega-links" site constructed for foreigners living in Japan. Those other numerous sites are excellent if you're looking to devour reams of information on all-things-Japan. However, this site is intended to be an expanding resource for the single [or few] best solution(s), from personal experience, to the major obstacles Westerners face living in Tokyo.
The various category links on the right span the primary topics where advice is typically most desired by foreign residents in Japan. Furthermore, as this site's name indicates, Tokyo residency is the focus but much of the information provided does apply to the whole of Japan. Please note the "Feature Focus" section is an editorial regarding Japanese lifestyle, business, Tokyo oddities or other observations which will change periodically with the author's whims.
Why "Westerner" perspective?
Good question. The advice and solutions offered throughout this site are all based on personal experience with the products, businesses and places described. Your humble author is "American" and thus the everyday needs addressed are decidedly, although not exclusively, Western in nature.
Okay, so you still want one of those "mega-link" sites ...
The Japan Reference Page is perhaps the most encompassing single source as it emulates a search directory, with almost 10,000 listings of sites only about Japan. It has also enjoyed longevity as many other sites have come and gone over the years.
